Coal

This is Coal Cat Marohcat. Coal is your typical black cat, so he appears the same in silhouette or otherwise.

Coal is our guard cat. Most recently he attacked Brutus, a 120 lb Rottweiler in a spiked collar. On his "past attacks" list are also the German Shepherd of Kilauea Lodge, two Golden Labradors (Lei and Goldie), and an Aloha pilot who appeared to be nabbing a kitten.

Coal is a generous gift-giver. But unlike Kayla, who presents birds and mice, Coal perceives us as preferring trash. Coal's offerings, left overnight on our porch or driveway, usually take the form of food wrappers, crumpled paper, or empty cigarette packs. Among the most unusual have been a pair of size 12 boy's underwear, a bag of nails, a large Milkbone dog treat, a nurf ball, a car registration, and a Chalet Kilauea newsletter.

Not yet four years old, Coal is already working on his sixth life. The terminating incidents of his previous lives are summarized in the following table:

Life # Terminating Incident
1 The cat trap beneath the "Steam Vent Cafe".
2 The fight with "Big Red" (cat).
3 The kerosene dousing.
4 The bad fish banquet.
5 The two day hiatus.

Update for Coal -- Fatal Incident:

9    The car on Haunani Road.

In hindsight, the table of lives above should be renumbered from 4 to 8. Apparently Coal had burned up some lives before we adopted him from the cat trap.
