Open House: Progress is made through the miracle of giving. A huge mahalo to all who gave in the name of the Volcano School Founders this year. A whopping $800 was raised for 4th annual Founder Day.  What a lovely birthday present for the school and the children!  Thank you!

On Thursday, January 13th, our school celebrated the fourth year since we were granted a charter.  We celebrated by having an open house, which had a tremendous turn out.  Parents, students, staff members, founders and community members gathered together to offer their support to the school.

There was a real sense of pride and community as everyone gathered in our multi-purpose room for a wonderful homemade dinner of chili, rice and cornbread.  After the food came live music beautifully performed by the third, fourth, and fifth graders and led by Karen Bender.  Their performances are always delightful and they rang in the New Year with songs of friendship and harmony.  Ariel Grey, our student council president, then addressed the audience with a history of how our school came to be and thanked each individual founding member for their part in bringing this school into being.  She did a fantastic job of showing the gratitude that we all feel towards everyone who has put in their endless time and efforts to make this school what it is today.  Then our new Educational Director, Dr. Rizor, talked about the visions he has in mind for our school and where we hope to be going in the years to come.  Dr. Rizor, having specialized in classroom curriculum, will be focused on uniting the current techniques and methodologies into a school-wide plan to better bridge across grade levels.  From the multi-purpose room, parents and others went on to check out the classrooms and see what the students have been working on.  The students were proud to show their family members around their classrooms and to show off all the hard work and effort they have been putting into their school work.

All in all, it was an extremely successful night.  Mahalo to all who came to show their support for our school.  Alicia Cole, K-1 Teacher.
