Parents and changes:  If you change phone numbers or addresses, please let me know.  Sometimes I don’t have the right one when I need to call you.  Thanks, Peggy

Naalehu parents:  We need some feedback here.  If it should happen that students are stuck at school because of the weather, how would you feel about them staying with a family in Volcano?  We will be notifying Volcano parents also and hooking you up with a specific family.  First though, we need your thoughts about this.  Please call Peggy or send a note in the Info Flo packet.

HAWAII BEVERAGE CONTAINER LAW

v     You can get 5 cents for each container – so 20 containers will give us $1.00
v     If each class (K-8) collected 20 containers a week, that gives us $8.00 per week.
v     Since there are 14 weeks until the end of school, which could give us $112.00!
v     Will you take up this challenge?

Note 1.  Only Uncrushed aluminum cans and plastic bottles in the designated container on the lanai of the multipurpose room, please.
Note 2.  January income was $9.60.

Thanks for Donation: The Monday-after-school Fabric Arts Class would like to thank Discount Fabric Warehouse for donating two sewing machines to the school for our class.  The machines are new Singer machines.  This gives us five machines for the class now.  With eight students this means there is very little wait time to use a machine.  The students visited Discount Fabric Warehouse on Monday to pick up the machines and also bought fabric and patterns for their next project.

5th Garage Sale: The fifth grade class would also like to thank all the parents and community members who supported our recent garage sale.  The sale was a benefit for victims of the Tsunami in Asia.  We had some great donations to the sale and a wonderful turn out of buyers.  The class raised over $880.00 for our gift to the Feed The Children fund.  This sale was the inspiration of the students.  They did the planning, advertising and running of the sale.  A big thanks to them too.

Reminder to 5th grade parents from Tanta Rosa:  Meeting Thursday after school at 2:00 concerning the Pentathlon.

VSAS-Japanese Exchange Program:  Feb. 20 - March 4, 2005
This year once again students from Japan's Waseda University Volunteer Center (WAVOC) are coming to Volcano School!  A big Mahalo to all the host families!  11 young men and women from Japan will volunteer at the school for two weeks.  The purpose of the visit is work-study, community service, cultural and educational exchange.  The WAVOC group will assist in running the VSAS Japanese language and culture program by conducting demonstrations and classes.

Friday, February 25th is Japanese Culture Day at Volcano School!  Volunteers will treat us to a full day of festival games and prizes.  Parents welcome to come check out the fun.  Look for a detailed schedule next week.
