Parent Questionnaire Today: In today's Info flo, you will find (one per family) a parent questionnaire.  The VSAS board is interested in getting your opinion on many facets of school operation. Your opinions will help the board evaluate our programs and make plans for the future. Please take a few minutes to read and respond to this survey, and return it to the office, either via the Info flo or by drop off to Peggy, by Friday, April 29.   Do not put your name on the questionnaire and your comments will remain anonymous.

The Annual Art Auction will be May 1, 2005  11.00 am to 2 pm at Cooper Center.
Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.
Advance tickets may be purchased at the school and both Volcano stores.

The fund development committee is still accepting art donations, and we need volunteers to help the day of the event. For more information, contact Kathy Brooks at 989-6826.

Board Meeting Summary:
Last week’s board meeting was rich with discussion on many issues. I’d like to share a brief synopsis on a few of the topics covered in the meeting:
· Kalima Cayir and Tricia Solimeo received consensus board approval to continue planning for a Volcano Summer Camp for kids 5 to 12 years of age.

· John Bush reported outstanding progress in receiving corporate donations toward a comprehensive computer program.

· Peggy Heisman brought the enrollment numbers before the board, and we learned that there is a waiting list of more than 70. Balancing our facilities capabilities and small school vision against the financial need for full enrollment, the board established enrollment limits.

· Dr. Rizor reported on the new school climate program, which teachers have received and are starting to implement. The focus of the Responsive
Classroom program is on building strong and supportive social groups.

· Teachers reported that the new teacher contract has received preliminary HSTA approval, has been ratified by the teachers, signed by the board, and is awaiting final HSTA signatures. This progress is a
major milestone for our school and represents an enormous amount of work on the part of many.

· We are moving forward on acquiring the lease for the campus [we have been sub-leasing] and are close to opening an escrow account for the
transfer of funds. Acquiring the lease directly from landowner, Kamehameha Schools will be another major step forward for VSAS. This issue has also taken a great deal of time and effort from a dedicated group of parent and community volunteers.

· Board meeting times will shift one-half hour later: The board will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Brittni Paiva Concert
on Sat. April 23, at 7:30:  See Bulletin Board for details.  Brittni is a 16 year old award-winning ‘ukulele and slack-key guitar stylist.  This is an opportunity for you to expose your youngsters to positive role models and artistic peers in our community.

Ho’iki Mau a Mau Update:  Aloha Parents,   As the Ho’iki Mau a Mau approaches, some of the students are expressing the need for transportation.  I have started a sign-up sheet for rides and need a helper to coordinate.  We can use our school van.
The times on Sat. April 30 are 8:30 am to 12:30 pm  because our school is scheduled to do clean up.  We will be in charge of organizing clean up and stacking chairs.  All participants are expected to remain throughout the morning.  This is a community-building event.  I will provide school T-Shirts for the performance and collect them at the end of the day.  My phone # is 896-0785.  I will have more details after the meeting Thursday, 4-21.  Thanks, Ms. Bender
