Peggy’s Vacation:  I will be gone from the 26th of May through noon on June 1st unless I get called to Jury Duty, then it will be longer.  I have to get the INFOFLO ready by the time I leave so if you want to get anything in for the May 30th issue, get it in by noon, Thursday, May 25th.

THE GREAT GRADE CHALLENGE RESULTS:  Every grade was represented at this past Saturday’s work day!  The 1st and 2nd grades had the most participation and gift album winners are (DRUMROLL PLEASE…) Tommy Mochizuki, T.J.’s dad -  trenching wizard, drywall and lumber moving phenomenon and Mike Odachi, Nai’a’s dad – drywall and insulation turbo offloader and paint sprayer dervish (who was that masked man?).
Winner of the one-hour massage: Snookie Mello, Zachary’s mom, fence stapling sensation.  Stay tuned for our next middle school construction completion volunteer opportunities, THE INSULATION HANGING HANG-OUT AND PAINT POSSE COMING SOON!!!  Please let me know what day and time will be best for you.  Pineapple MataBishop,. Absences:  We have had a lot of absences lately due to this awful flu.  However, I have many “unexcused absences” recorded because I do not get a call or note from the parent.  Please get in touch if your student is out.  So many unexcused absences and we are to notify the courts.

Kitty needs home:  Miss Cole’s kitty needs a home.  Spayed female, one year old.  Outdoor cat, low maintenance.  Probably not a good match with very young children.  Call 968-6750.

Soccer in Volcano?
Three AYSO coaches and VSAS parents are offering to coach team(s) in Volcano in the fall. Games would be played in Pahala area.  BUT we need someone to help organize it.  If you're tired of driving to Keaau 3 times a week and want to help make this happen, please contact Kalima 985-8727.

Classroom Aide: ½ time, two positions available.  To apply, submit a resume and copies of relevant documents, such as your teaching license.

Mahalo to all who helped, donated snacks for snack booth and participated in our 2nd Annual Ho’olaule’a.  It was a big success.  The student council and Middle School worked really hard on Friday, running each game booth.  We raised $566.34, some of which is going toward playground equipment.

Artists In Action Free family event:  The Volcano Village Artists Hui presents the 3rd annual Artists in Action Day, Sunday, June 4, 11 am to 4 pm at Volcano Garden Arts at the makai end of Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village. VSAS families are especially encouraged to participate.  All art activities are offered free of charge, while a gourmet vegetarian plate lunch will be available for purchase. Volcano School Summer Fun!
Thanks to everyone who already registered. We are planning an exciting summer!  Summer Fun will be open the entire summer for children ages 5-12. Non-VSAS students are welcome to attend. Come for a few days or for the entire session. Financial aid is available - just ask. Registration minimums have not yet been met. Tell your friends.

Volcano Art Center's 2006 Camp Likolehua: Summer Arts for Youth ages 8 to 12 will be July 10-21, 9 am- 4pm at the Old Japanese Schoolhouse.  Ten full days of visual and performing arts with dynamic artist-educators including drawing, painting, printing, masks, mixed media, creative drama, movement and dance.  $125 fee. Spaces are filled on first-come, first-paid basis.  To register or receive financial aid information, call 967-8222, come to our Niaulani campus office (Mon-Fri 8:30 am-5 pm) or go to www.volcanoartcenter.org

Tyler Sumner Wins Another!  Congratulations again to 6th grader, Tyler Sumner, who just won an honorable mention in the Starbuck’s Poetry Contest.  Tyler’s poem “Understanding” was chosen from over 3,000 poems, according to a judge from Windward Community College.  He wins $10.00 and will be featured on the webpage under “Star Poets 2006” at www.wcc.hawaii.edu.  “This is Tyler’s second poetry contest win this year,” said Mrs. Morrison, Language Arts Teacher.
