Friday, Aug. 4….First day swimming for 3rd graders
Thursday, Aug. 10……School Board Meeting…..All Welcome

WELCOME BACK:  This is the first Info Flo of the year and we hope that it is useful to you.  Correspondence in the envelope may include: the Info Flo newsletter, homework, grades, lunch menus, lunch and bus bills, trip permission slips, announcements of school events, and fund raising events. They will come to you on Tuesday and we would like to have them signed and returned by Thursday.  For families who have more than one student here, the envelope will go with a designated sibling.  Please impress upon your student that you are depending on him/her to be responsible for delivering information to you from the school and returning the envelope to us for re-use.

Accident Insurance:  In years past we were able to provide accident insurance at a very low rate, but it is no longer available.  Efforts to find some sort of group policy have failed.  More on this later as we learn about liability issues.

ATTENTION ALL KA'U SIDE PARENTS
Mandatory Meeting for Bus training with Ms. Cheryl--Bus Driver Extraordinaire--Saturday, August 5, 9:00 a.m. at Waiohinu Park.  If your child rides the bus YOU OR A REPRESENTATIVE FROM YOUR FAMILY MUST ATTEND!  This will give you all the facts you need about your child and the school bus.
For more info or questions call Elizabeth, 929-9234 Be there, Aloha

Applications for Free/Reduced lunches need to be turned in ASAP.  I can only give you last year’s rate for 10 days.  Thank you, Peggy

Uku Checks:  These are done here at school periodically and this week will be the first check. If you are able to help out, we can use some volunteers for these sessions. Next issue of Info Flo will have a short article on prevention/treatment. Note:  If your student has either head lice or live eggs, he must go home or to one of your emergency contacts.

Reminder:  Bring in those school supply dollars!  Also anyone who stills owes money from last year’s bus and lunch bills – I would appreciate payment so I can close out 05-06 records.  Thank you again, Peggy.

Volcano
School
Meets AYP Again:
Each year schools must meet Adequate Yearly Progress or AYP, based on Hawaii State Assessment scores. Students in grades 3 through eight are tested in reading and mathematics every spring as required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Volcano School of Arts and Sciences met the proficiency goals for 2006 as the only school in Puna or Ka’u to meet the AYP goals. Hooray for our students and teachers!

Inserts:  Past due bills, Messages from Board Chair and new Counselor, August lunch menus.
