News Release:  The Volcano School of Arts & Sciences Middle School students will be presenting another fun-filled evening of theatrical silliness in cooperation with KDEN on May 10th at the KMC Theatre. The Middle school will present three laugh-filled one act plays for your enjoyment.
The sixth grade will by presenting Tim Kelly’s ridiculous comedy, It’s Bigfoot.  This screw-ball play tells the story of how a group of rural townspeople react to the sighting of Bigfoot.  Between the antics of Sheriff Renfrew, hunting lodge owner Moose, and Penny, his well-intentioned daughter, we find the real identity of Bigfoot.  This one will prove to be a laugh-a-minute show that will raise anyone’s spirits.   (continued next week)

SOS to all friends of VSAS:  We desperately need newer laptop computers for staff members.  One of our computer technicians, Tom Young of VolcanoPC, has offered to copy your data to CD/DVD and erase sensitive data from any donated laptop before the school gets it.  Furthermore, he will help you set up any new computer you buy to replace the one you donate.  Remember, your donation is tax deductible.  Please call Tom 967-7249 with questions.

“BRANCHING OUT” Blossoms
Just before Spring Break, the K-1-2 -3 classes performed the Spring Production “Branching Out” at Kilauea Theater. It was a memorable evening of songs, puppets and movement with a lot of smiles and laughter – and plenty of unrehearsed moments as the youngsters performed spontaneously in the spotlight.
Mahalo to all the parents who went the

extra mile to get their kids to the theater on time and fed, and who have supported this production with your energies, talents, calabash donations and applause. Events such as this, and families like you, are what make VSAS an exceptional school. It has been our pleasure to work with the VSAS students and teachers again this year. –-Dina Kageler & Kate Schuerch, co-directors.

OLD PHOTOS
We are seeking old photos of our 8th grade class to put together a photographic memory piece for graduation.  We need photos from classes, projects, field trips, or other school events taken anytime since the group started with VSAS in third grade.  These can be prints, negatives or digital.  We will scan them, so your originals will not be damaged. Put them in an envelope, with your name/telephone, and send them to the office.  Or you may call me.  Thanks, Dina Kageler, 967-8151

Wanted by 5th grade:  Do any of you have an extra water dispenser you aren’t using anymore?  If so, we could use it in Mrs. Hiestand’s room.

What happened while you were away:  Have you noticed that the pot holes have been filled in the driveway and that a permanent bus parking space has been opened up.  The Movement Room floor is painted, the Multi Purpose Room floor waxed and walls scrubbed, and gutters cleared.  Ms. Kim Miller exchanged rooms with Ms. Lisa Barnard and Ms. Lora Bristow and signs note the change.  Thank you to the custodians, maintenance and facilities coordinator.

The Counseling Office and SSC/
Title I offices have moved and changed phone numbers.  Lora Bristow, SSC, and Lisa Barnard, Title I coordinator are now located in the back part of the computer tent.  The bigger space allows for both office space and tutoring groups.  Kim Miller, Counselor, is now located in the office next to the multi-purpose room.   Please stop by and see our new “digs”.
