News Release, Continuted on Middle School Theatre:  The seventh grade will be presenting the caffeine-jolting humor of Rachel Davidson in The Pony Expresso or…The Villain Came to a Grinding Halt.  As in all melodramas, we have the villain who wants the sweet maiden and her property, and the clueless hero who can do no wrong, no matter how hard he tries.  The two major leads are Star Bright…our dazzling heroine…who also makes a good cup of coffee, and Buck Brawn..Tea drinker to the rescue.  Get it? Star and Buck.  Oh groan.  You can see the kind of caffeine jolting humor this bit of play writing is going to…grind out…for you.

Tee Shirt Volunteer:  If you are interested in coordinating the Tee Shirt sales for VSAS, call Helen Hopkins at 929-8557.  She’s faithfully been doing it for 2 years now.

Second notice: OLD PHOTOS
We are seeking old photos of our 8th grade class to put together a photographic memory piece for graduation.  We need photos from classes, projects, field trips, or other school events taken anytime since the group started with VSAS in third grade.  These can be prints, negatives or digital.  We will scan them, so your originals will not be damaged. Put them in an envelope, with your name/telephone, and send them to the office.  Or you may call me.  Thanks, Dina Kageler, 967-8151

Help! Two New Parent Representatives Needed.
The VSAS School Board Needs You! Are you interested in helping our school by volunteering to serve on committees like Fine Arts, Technology, Facilities or Personnel. We need help to guide a vision for new facilities. We need advisors on financial and policy topics. Do you have an interest in local or state-wide partnerships? Are you interested in writing grants?
The new board will be elected in May. Each position will serve a two year term. Board and board committee meetings are held monthly. Please come to this week's meeting on April 12th at 6 PM if you are interested or contact Lora Gale at 985-9126. Hope to see you there. Remember, "No one is as smart as all of us".

is getting geared up for another session beginning April 23.  New classes this session are Drumming on Tuesdays and Salsa Dancing on Thursdays.  Ballet and Hip Hop will combine into a choreography class on Wednesdays.  Ukulele will not be offered this session. Details and registration form will be in next week's Infoflo.  For questions or more info contact Kalima 345-9770.

Preparations for the VSAS Summer
Enrichment Program (formerly Summer Fun) are in the works.  The Program will be open Monday thru Friday throughout the entire summer.  Fees are being reduced to $60 per week in an effort to reach more families.  Scholarships will be offered based on donations of sponsorship from the community. In addition to Friday outings, we are planning a swimming day once a week.  We are hoping to provide transportation for up to 14 kids from Pahala.  We are also hoping to add workshops designed for older students.  Please let us know if you or someone you know may be interested in leading a workshop.  Scheduling is flexible.  Contact Kalima 345-9770 for more info.

VSAS Students Win High Honors at Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair!!!

Emma Tunison’s “Making Moa’ Koa” Botany Research, Dakota Walker and Hunter Wilburn’s Team Entry Zoology Research on Owl “Prey and Pellets” and Forrest Gale’s Engineering Display Project, “Power Road Puts the Brakes on Global Warming” brought home big smiles and several top awards last week from the state’s 50th Science and Engineering Fair held on Oahu. VSAS students received a paid trip to compete after winning at the county level. The state competition brought over 500 students together to exhibit in Junior Display, Junior Research and Senior Research categories at the Blaisdell Convention Center. Hunter and Dakota won recognition from the Honolulu Zoological Society. Emma’s research won four cash awards including best in botany category. Forrest’s project won the Fair’s first place in Junior Display as well as best in engineering category and four cash awards.

Our students spent many hours of week-end and spring break time to refine their exhibits and push their projects to excel. We are proud that all four of our students received awards at the state level. This was not typical for most schools competing! Hats off to Ms. Quijano and all VSAS teachers who helped these 8th graders to remain enthusiastic about science and achieve this level of recognition. Another first for VSAS!
